body weight and your health, but you just can’t seem to resist the sugar, fat and/or simple carbohydrates
that seem to call out to you. Food is no longer just a means of sustenance, but rather a means of
managing emotional distress. What you once thought of as a solution has become a trap. You know that
your behavior is unhealthy, but you're afraid to give up binging or compulsive eating because your

How to Beat Your Food Addiction
On a primary level, overcoming food addiction is really
all about removing the source of your emotional pain, isn't it? If you could remove the depression,
anxiety and emotional distress you wouldn't need to alleviate it with sugar, simple carbohydrates or fat.
Unfortunately, most psychologists, psychiatrists, and specialists still believe that food addiction is
a disease that can never be cured and only managed by counseling or the 12-step approach. However, I
have a different take on food addiction, and I have proven time and time again that it is not a disease
or a life-long affliction. And, I believe that treating it as such is not only counterproductive to
overcoming it, but it prevents most folks from addressing the root cause of their self-destructive
behavior.
The Food Addiction Factors
Yes, it is true that emotional distress, anxiety and
depression are the foundations for food addiction. However, in addition, there is often a secondary
component in the equation, which is orchestrated on a subconscious level. I call these components "The
Food Addiction Factors!" These factors are extremely powerful and often prevent most people from
overcoming emotional, compulsive and binge eating. Without addressing them, the rate of success is significantly reduced. I'm sure
you've seen others exercise and eat properly yet still find it impossible to lose body fat. In fact,
this may have happened to you. Bottom line, if your mind is telling your body it needs to store fat,
all the exercise and proper eating will fail. Likewise, if there is a subconscious agenda for being
overweight or obese, you will find it impossible to resist the cravings for sugar, hi-fatty foods or
simple carbohydrates. Do not, by any means, underestimate the power of these “Food Addiction Factors!”
As an example, Food addiction and obesity is often used as a confidence builder. Of course this is a
distorted view of what true self-confidence really is, however, for those who have been verbally and/or
physically abused, it often becomes a solution. Sure, it’s a false, distorted and destructive one, but,
in the eyes of compulsive or binge eater, it’s a solution nonetheless. As an example, Randy’s grew up
in a household rife with verbal and physical abuse. In order to survive, he learned to avoid
confrontation by withdrawing. Without any support from either parent, Randy learned to find comfort
in food. He also discovered that the larger and more obese he became, the more reluctant his father
was to inflict physical abuse. This prompted Randy to program his subconscious mind, which gave his
body permission to put the obesity pedal to the metal!
Food Addiction is not a Disease
Ninety-five percent of all recovery programs employ the
12-step program and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as primary modalities. These methods attempt to address
spiritual and emotional issues. In my mind, this prompts the following question: How can you call
addiction a disease yet treat it with spiritual and emotional modalities? So, which is it; a disease or
an emotional and spiritual issue? Is this not a bit hypocritical? The proponents of the disease concept
would have you believe that everyone who is addicted has a faulty gene. Subsequently, when those
individuals drink alcohol, use drugs, eat certain foods, gamble, smoke a cigarette or shop, they become
chemically addicted to that substance or compulsion. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will
show you brain scan after scan in an attempt to demonstrate that addiction is a disease. However, all
that really proves is that drugs and alcohol are mind altering. But, so are other innocuous substances
and activities. In addition, the psychoactive substances such as antidepressants, anxiety and mood
stabilization drugs prescribed to millions each year are also mind altering. But, you don’t see the
(NIDA) posting brain scans which reference changes in brain chemistry caused by these prescription
drugs! Bottom line, addiction is not a disease, and certainly food addiction strays even further from
that theory. Furthermore, if you tally up all types of habitual behavior, the number of addicted people
would probably exceed 70 million. So, am I to believe that nearly a fourth of the U.S. population is
genetically defective? Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m just not buying that!
Why Twelve-Step Programs Fail in
Excess of 90% of the Time!
I would like to begin this paragraph by crowning the opening introductory statement of the Twelve-Step Program format.
Repeat after me; my name is blank, and I am addicted to food! Now, let me ask you a question; how did it make you feel to
say that? Well, it made me feel inadequate, guilt ridden, and shameful, and I have never even had an addiction!
However, if you choose to participate in this program you may as well get use to it because you'll be asked to
repeat it multiple times at each and every meeting! You see, I have personally attended and participated
in 12-step meetings, and I found the experience to be one of the most disempowering things I've ever done. The goal
of the program is a spiritual awakening although most people find it difficult to make this connection because they
feel victimized by someone else's behavior. I believe that admitting you are powerless does not promote empowerment
nor does it restore self-esteem!
Experience has taught me that the Twelve-Step Program is fundamentally
amiss because it fails to address the root cause of addiction, and it exacerbates the already low self-esteem
of many participants. Think about it for a moment! Why would you teach someone with low self-esteem that they are
powerless and full of defects of character? Furthermore, why would you teach them self-incrimination and victimization?
Unfortunately, most of the 12 steps are not only counterproductive to overcoming addiction, but in my opinion, they're
also dangerous since many participants become addicted to antidepressants!
"The Food Addiction Factors E-System" streamlines
the process for overcoming emotional, compulsive and binge eating by accomplishing addiction freedom in
five easy to follow steps. Unlike the Twelve-Step Program, it defines the core issue and shows exactly how to overcome addiction.
It eliminates the counterproductive steps of powerlessness and self-incrimination and replaces them with steps that
alleviate emotional distress and restore self-esteem - vital and necessary components to beating addiction!
The Twelve-Step Program strives to address the addiction itself, but that's the wrong approach. How can you
overcome the symptoms without curing the cause? You can't! And since you can't, taking that approach to beating an
addiction is the equivalent of putting a band-aid on the problem.
Addiction is a symptom of underlying emotional distress, depression, and anxiety. Therefore, when you
fix the root of the problem habitual behavior becomes repulsive. Instead, the mainstream philosophy has followed
a pattern of bombarding people with psychobabble, disease rhetoric, and failed Twelve-Step dogma, none of which
addresses the root cause.
The Ineffectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a blanket-term for psychotherapy systems that define psychological
dysfunctions as learned beliefs, interpretations, and responses as problematic behavior, with the aim of
influencing or changing those problematic emotions and behaviors. (CBT) is based on the assumption that
most emotional and behavioral reactions are learned. Therefore, the goal of therapy is to help clients
unlearn their unwanted reactions and to learn a new way of reacting. Many of the CBT principles adopt
stoicism; the emotional indifference, especially admirable patience and endurance shown in the face of
adversity, which is the exact opposite of liberation and empowerment – two vital components required to
achieve addiction freedom. (CBT) principles are based on stoicism, which encourages a passive approach
of patience and endurance in the face of adversity, rather than an active method of liberation. But, how
can someone gain his or her self-respect and embrace self-love by taking a stoic and passive approach to
the dysfunctional patterns that caused the addiction to begin with? In my opinion, this approach is not
only fundamentally amiss, but it has also contributed to the widespread abuse of antidepressants.
It’s not about the Food
In addition to the primary models of (CBT) and the 12-Step Program, there are other variations that are
largely based on correcting or improving one's relationship with food. Strangely, some proponents of
this hypothesis have even christened their food addiction with common names. Yet, others tend to make
food the focal point for recovery. This is the equivalent of scrying (crystal ball gazing) in a glass of
beer in an attempt to unveil the secrets of overcoming alcoholism! It’s not about the food, but rather
why you are using it destructively. The very notion that gazing intently at a plate filled with meat and
potatoes is somehow going to lead to addiction freedom is utterly preposterous. Attempting to reconcile
one’s theoretical relationship with food only strengthens and perpetuates improper behavior while
diminishing personal power. When you consider that overcoming addiction requires empowerment, you soon
realize that this is absolutely counterproductive and only exacerbates the problem. The very fact that
you even have a relationship with food is a problem!
Three Dangerous Mistakes that People Make about
Food Addiction!
1. Approaching food addiction as a chemical co-dependence
Accepting the theory that food addiction is a chemical co-dependence caused by a chemical imbalance in the
brain is not only counterproductive, but it actually prevents most people from uncovering and confronting the root
cause of their habitual behavior.
2. Believing that food addiction is a problematic learned behavior
Believing that food addiction is a problematic learned behavior encourages most people to believe that cognitive
behavioral modification will lead to success, and nothing is further from the truth. Brushing your teeth every morning
is a learned behavior and a habit too! But, ask yourself a question; which one would be easier to walk away from?
There's a reason why you've found it hard to end your food addiction, and until you address it nothing will change!
3. Believing that overcoming emotional, compulsive and binge eating requires will power
When the root cause of food addiction is uncovered and confronted self-destructive eating becomes repulsive - period!
Therefore, beating a food addiction has absolutely nothing to do with willpower whatsoever!
If you've found yourself trapped in food addiction or you've
relapsed, this may be why!
These strategies don't work!
Now at this point you may be asking yourself a question. How could achieving permanent freedom from food addiction
be that simple? Well, addiction is not, by any stretch, the complicated brain disease that the mainstream
touts it to be. On the contrary, when you get right down to brass tacks, it's relatively simple! But it is hard, and
I won't mince words about that. However, if you do indeed find the courage to face your demons, I will make you a
promise and a guarantee; what you'll find on the other side will be more wonderful than you could ever
have imagined!
Of course you want to lead a life that's happier, healthier, and free from addiction more than anything
